CALM HEALING Medical Uses of Meditation

Robert Newman, director of Medigrace, worked with Tibetan meditation teachers and doctors for more than 20 years. Since 1997 he has been teaching programs in the medical uses of meditation in West Coast hospitals. His book CALM HEALING Methods for a New Era of Medicine was recently published by North Atlantic Books.

In the 3 hour monthly class at Jackson Wellsprings in Ashland, three healing methods are learned and practiced.

q Practice of Deep Release

A reclining practice of progressive neuromuscular release, this is the most proven method of mind/body medicine. It enables people to heal various conditions in their nervous systems corresponding to a range of biological and psychophysical disorders. The practice also engages life force at a cellular level

q Vase Breathing

This practice is transformative with respect to both body and breathing.

People learn their natural ability to breathe vital energy into the energy body. At the same time they learn to calm the mind and expose and dispel

anxieties and fears, coming to a new sense of body and inner freedom.

q Reversal of Suffering
This is the most famous healing practice handed down from ancient wisdom. It’s used widely in the healing arts today. It enables people to reverse various disabling conditions by practicing the healing of others In the process, people learn the light nature of their body and the power of compassion.
